About the Designer

Leslie Grimm, Ph.D, has been designing educational software for more than 25 years. She has developed more than a dozen commercial titles, including the award-winning programs Reader Rabbit (Learning Company) and The Playroom (Broderbund).

Since 1995 she has focused on developing software to serve the needs of deaf children and their families. She learned the Cued Speech system and also signs ASL. She has been a volunteer one to two days a week at the California School for the Deaf in Fremont for seven years, where she sees firsthand the teaching methods that work best with young deaf children. She incorporates these methods in the software, and tests and modifies the games based on how the children use them in the classroom as well as advice from teachers.

The Cued Speech software was evaluated and tested by members of the National Cued Speech Association, and has received NCSA approval. Deaf children, their teachers and parents provided extensive testing and feedback during program development.

Leslie's other interests include backpacking and painting with watercolor. She is webmaster for her art club: Los Altos Art Club.
